Martyrs’ Day is a sacred occasion in India dedicated to paying tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty. This day is celebrated every year on March 23, as Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged on this day in 1931. Their sacrifice gave a new direction to the Indian freedom struggle and inspired countless people with the spirit of patriotism.
Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru led the revolutionary movement against the British rule and awakened the passion and enthusiasm for freedom among the people. Bhagat Singh believed that “Inquilab Zindabad” is not just a slogan but an ideology that can break the chains of slavery. On March 23, 1931, the British government hanged these three revolutionaries, but could not erase their immortality. They were members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), whose aim was to overthrow the British rule.
The purpose of Shaheed Diwas is to make the Indian youth aware of the sacrifices of the freedom struggle. This day reminds us that we did not get independence easily, but there are sacrifices of countless martyrs behind it. Bhagat Singh started thinking about independence at the age of just 8 and left his home at the age of 15. His determination, courage and struggle still remain a source of inspiration for the youth.
Today, when we are breathing in an independent India, we should not forget that this independence is the result of millions of sacrifices. On this occasion, we should take a pledge that we will also contribute to the progress, security and prosperity of our country.
